Producer Behaviour in a Systems Model of Integrated Catchment Management

The complexity of Australia’s agricultural systems and the wide range of problems that rural areas currently face makes coordinated policy development difficult. This paper reports on a project that is using systems tools to develop an integrated catchment model to assist in this policy coordination problem. The focus here is on how an economic model of farmer behaviour can be adapted to permit systems analysis of the effects of a range of policy tools on a range of social, economic and environmental outcomes.
